Overseas spectators and other people not from China are completely banned from attending the Winter Olympics. This comes as a shock to those who have been searching for travel itineraries for the upcoming winter Olympics. 

People had huge travel and vacation plans for the Olympics but now all those plans have gone down the drain. Every sports person and accompanying team will be checked daily for COVID-19, those who are unvaccinated will have to undergo a compulsory 21-day quarantine. 

Even the ticket sales for the event which was previously open for everyone has now been restricted to people from mainland China. This is something really heartbreaking as fans of the Olympics had huge hopes for the event. 

Beijing will be the first city in the world to have hosted both the summer and winter Olympics. However, even after the restrictions, the contrast here is that still the games will have some spectators, in the Tokyo Olympics even this was not possible and all the games were held in empty stadiums. 

The only silver lining here is that for the winter Olympics the players won’t have to perform in empty stadiums, so it does not matter if international spectators will not be there.
